History
The General Service Medal was instituted by King Ismail Nasir ud-din Shah on June 8, 1967, as a reward for general service by members of the permanent staff of the uniformed services, and awarded in a single class. It is also known in Malay as "Pingat Perkhidmatan Am."
The round silver medal bears the Arms of the Federation with the name of the medal in Jawi below on the obverse and a map of the Malay Peninsula in relief on the reverse. A straight suspension bar is attached to the medal by two crossed palm branches. This medal is worn on a light green ribbon with light blue edges and a central yellow stripe.
