History

This medal was conferred upon all members of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces for wounds acquired in the act of distinguished or meritorious service.

This award is formally known as the Desha Putra Sammanaya, translated as Wounded in Service Medal. It is also known as the Sri Lankan Armed Forces Wound Medal.

The reverse inscription was translated from the original Singhalese script.
