Physical Description

A five-pointed star with rays between the points, the obverse bears a circular red enamel medallion with two shaking hands superimposed over an outline of the world in longitude and latitude lines, on a red ribbon with yellow stripes.

History

The Friendship Order was instituted on November 26, 2003, by the Government of Vietnam.

This medal is conferred upon foreigners in recognition of service in the economic development of Vietnam, the security and defense of Vietnam, developing relation of friendship in areas such as politics, economics, security, technology and science, and environment, as well as establishing relations with other countries, regions and institutions.

The Friendship Order is awarded among other things for solidarity and friendship, mutual respect for the sovereignty, laws, and customs of Vietnam.
