History
This Title was founded by the Presidium of the Great National Assembly, and it was conferred upon Bulgarian citizens in recognition of achievements in the fields of culture, science, or technology.
It was named after the communist leader Georgi Dimitrov, who was the Bulgarian Prime Minister from 1946-1949.
Recipients of this Prize were given the label “Laureate.”
In 1960, the II Class Medal and III Class Medal were discontinued, but the I Class Medal continued to be awarded until the Prize was discontinued in 1990.
The reverse inscription includes the year in which the recipient attained the Title.
There were approximately 1285 prizes awarded in total.
