History
This medal was established by King Boris III to honour civil and military personnel who served during the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913.
The medal was awarded to three type of recipients, Combatants, Non-Combatants, and Next of Kin. Each type of recipient was awarded an identical medal, but the medal itself worn on a unique ribbon.
The Combatant ribbon is green with one red and two white stripes along the exterior edges.
The Non-Combatant ribbon is green with one red and two white stripes along the exterior edges and one white stripe through the centre of the ribbon.
The Next of Kin ribbon is green with one red and two white stripes along the exterior edges and one black stripe through the centre of the ribbon.
When the medal was conferred upon women it was worn on a bow ribbon.
