History
This medal was founded by Ferdinand I to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1876 insurrection.
It was conferred upon Bulgarian participants and veterans in recognition of service rendered during the insurrection of April, 1876.
The medal was produced by jeweler Nikola Sabev and designed by Boris Schatz.
The obverse inscription translates to "Freedom or Death" and "April 20, 1876". It also features the names of the following towns: "Panagyurishte", "Peroushtitsa", "Klisura", "Batak", and "Koprivshtitsa."
The reverse inscription translates to "Those Who Perish in the Fight for Freedom Shall not Die," “Ferdinand I Prince of Bulgaria, to the Veterans, April 20, 1901."
