History

This Order was originally founded during the People’s Republic of Bulgaria.

It continued to be awarded after the fall of the People's Republic of Bulgaria because it was considered to be a politically neutral honour.

Recipient's of the Order were high ranking foreign women whose service had fostered international friendships with Bulgaria.

The Order was discontinued on June 9, 2003.

The Collar was restricted to the wives of foreign heads of state.
