History

This cross was founded by the Czechoslovak government while in exile to commemorate the struggle for a liberate Czechoslovakia.

It was conferred upon foreign citizens and Czechoslovakians in recognition of meritorious service in active combat, and for risking their lives, during World War II.

The cross may be awarded multiple times to one recipient. Each additional conferral is recognized by the addition of bronze oak leaves insignia.

There are three versions of the medal that were produced with different suspension shapes.

The crosses produced in London have a roller suspension, and they were issued first from 1940-1941.

The crosses produced in Prague in may have a ring suspension or a ball suspension. The crosses with a ring suspension were issued in 1945, while the crosses with a ball suspension were issued from 1945-1946.
