The Decoration of the Peace Guard was established by the Council of Ministers in 1972. It was awarded to military personnel of the USSR in recognition of meritorious service during their temporary stationing in Poland. It was also awarded sparingly to government officials of the USSR in recognition of their service in Poland. It was permanently suppressed in 1991 following the collapse of the communist regime in 1989.
The II Class Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "For Guarding the Peace, Baltic, Oder-Neisse," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Council of Ministers of the Polish People's Republic, Friendship, Socialism, Peace."
