History

The Warsaw Medal was established in 1945. It was awarded to Polish and foreign military personnel and civilians who defended Warsaw against German forces in 1939, to those who participated in resistance activities during its occupation, and to those who participated in its liberation in 1945. It was administered by the Council of State until 1989 and was subsequently awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland before it was officially discontinued in 1999.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription translates to "For Warsaw," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Republic of Poland, To Its Defenders, Warriors, Liberators."
