History

The Afghanistan Star was established by the Republic of Poland in 2007. It is awarded to members of the Polish military, the Internal Security Agency, the Foreign Intelligence Agency, the Military Intelligence Agency, the Government Protection Bureau, the Central Anticorruption Bureau, the Military Counterintelligence Service, the Border Guard, the State Fire Service, and police officers who served in a military operation in Afghanistan since 2002. It can also be awarded to civilians or foreigners in recognition of cooperation with Polish operations.

The Bronze Star features initials on the obverse that stand for "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Republic of Poland). The reverse inscription translates to "I Serve Peace." A clasp with a number is worn on the ribbon to denote the contingent of the recipient.
