History
The Iraq Star was established by the Republic of Poland in 2007. It is awarded to members of the Polish military, the Internal Security Agency, the Foreign Intelligence Agency, the Military Intelligence Agency, the Government Protection Bureau, the Central Anticorruption Bureau, the Military Counterintelligence Service, the Border Guard, the State Fire Service, and police officers who served in a military operation in Iraq since 2003. It can also be awarded to civilians or foreigners for cooperation with Polish operations.
An "IRACKA WOLNOSC" (Iraqi Freedom) ribbon clasp is awarded to members of the Polish military who participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additional clasps with numbers are worn to denote the contingent of the recipient.
The Bronze Star features initials on the obverse that stand for "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Republic of Poland). The reverse inscription translates to "I Serve Peace."
