The Peasant Battalion's Cross was established by the United People's Party in 1988, but it was not officially recognised as a state decoration until 1992. It ceased to be awarded in 1999.
It was awarded to members of the Peasants' Battalions, the armed resistance groups of the Second World War, in recognition of their service from 1939-1945.
The Gold Cross features initials on the obverse that stand for "Bataliony Chlopskie" (Peasant's Battalions) and "WOJSKO POLSKIE" (Polish Army). The reverse inscription can be translated to "They Feed and They Defend."
