History
This Medal was established by King Carol II in 1939 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of King Carol I.
It was awarded to members of the Royal Family, members of the royal court, members of the diplomatic corps, Knights of the Order of Michael the Brave, recipients of the Military Bravery Medal, recipients of the Commemorative Medal for the Second Balkan War, and all veterans who served in the Romanian Armed Forces under King Carol I.
The Medal was awarded with a “PRO PATRIA” clasp to those who made monetary contributions to the Romanian Armed Forces and national defence initiatives.
The obverse inscription translates to “Carol I, The Founder of the Dynasty of the Romanian Kingdom,” and the reverse inscription translates to “100 Years Since the Birth of Romania’s First King, Celebrated During the Reign of Carol II.”
There are two versions of the medal which differ in suspension. The first version has a movable crown, and the second version has a fixed crown.
There may be additional versions that vary in size or composition.
