History
The Cross for Public Service was established by King Carol II in 1931. It was originally awarded to Romanian civil servants in recognition of 25 years of faithful service, but it was suppressed in 1947 following the abolition of the Romanian monarchy. It was reinstated in 2004 following the collapse of the communist regime and is presently awarded for 20, 25, and 30 years of faithful service.
There are two versions of the Silver Cross. The first features the cypher of Carol II, and the second features the national crest of Romania. The first version is actually identical to the Medal for 25 Years of Military Service that was awarded from 1930-1947, and the two differ only in their ribbons.
The previous version is listed in the Medals & Decorations of the Kingdom of Romania (1881-1947).
