History
The Medal of Agricultural Merit was established by King Carol II in 1932 but was suppressed in 1947 after the abolition of the Romanian monarchy. It was reinstated in 2000 following the collapse of the communist regime and is currently conferred upon Romanian citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious service in the field of agriculture.
There are three versions of the I Class Medal. The first features the cypher of King Carol II and the second features the cypher of King Mihai I. The third version features the national crest of Romania and a reverse inscription that translates to “Agricultural Merit.”
The previous versions are listed in the Medals & Decorations of the Kingdom of Romania (1881-1947). See also the Order of Agricultural Merit in the Orders of the Kingdom of Romania (1881-1947) and Romania (1990-) for the Order that was created alongside the medal.
