History

The Order of Maritime Virtue was established in 2000. It is conferred upon Romanian citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious service at sea. It is awarded in two divisions, and it may also be awarded with crossed swords for wartime merit.

Membership in the Grand Officer grade is limited to 8 members in the Civil Division and 12 members in the Military Division in peacetime. There are no conferral limits d ...  uring periods of war.

The Grand Officer Breast Star (Civil Division) features three stars in the medallion, the Grand Officer Breast Star (Military Division) features a wreath in the medallion, and the Grand Officer Breast Star (wartime) features a wreath in the medallion with crossed swords through the body of the star. All three versions feature an obverse inscription translates to “Maritime Virtue.”
