History
The Labour Medal was awarded to Romanian civilians in recognition of excellent achievements in a variety of fields, but it was permanently discontinued following the collapse of the Socialist Republic in 1989.
There are three versions of the Silver Medal that differ in inscription and suspension. The first version has a ring suspension perpendicular to the medal and features the initials of the Romanian People's Republic on the obverse. The second and third versions have suspension rings that are parallel to the medal, but the second version features the initials of the Romanian People's Republic while the third version features the initials of the Romanian Socialist Republic. All three versions have a reverse inscription that translates to "For Special Merit in Labour."
See also the Order of Labour in the Orders of the Romanian People's Republic & Romanian Socialist Republic (1947-1989) for the order that is associated with this medal.
