History

This medal was established in 1996 by president Leonid Kuchma and first awarded on December 4 the same year.

It is conferred upon an individual for “personal courage and valor, excellent military service, successful execution of special tasks and for 25 years of pristine service to the Ukrainian military.” The medal can be awarded to native citizens, non-native citizens and posthumously.

The reverse of this medal translates to "FOR MILITARY SERVICE TO UKRAINE".
