History
The Medal is conferred upon members of the Italian Armed Forces, Red Cross, Financial Police, and personnel within the Ministry of Defence who have rendered exceptional service in efforts to aid individuals and communities devastated by natural disasters. Recipients were required to have served in the area of disaster for at least 7 days. If they were injured or became sick as a result of their efforts, the minimum period of service may be waved.
This Medal may be awarded multiple times to recipients who provide aid in several disasters. A bronze star is added to the ribbon when the medal is awarded to a second time. Two bronze stars are added to the ribbon when the medal is awarded for a third time. A single silver star is added to the ribbon when the medal is awarded more than three times.
