The Cross was founded as unofficial awards that were available for members of the 1st Royal Army who had rendered service throughout World War I.

There are two models of this Cross. The first model features a ram on the obverse medallion. These crosses may of may not be stamped by the manufacturer "L.FASSINO TORINO." The second model features the eagle emblem of Savoy on the obverse medallion. These crosses are stamped by the manufacturer "L.POZZI TORINO."
