This Medal was founded to commemorate all those who had fought to liberate Sicily in 1860.

There is only one known example of the Gold Medal and it was awarded to General Giuseppe Garibaldi for his role in the liberation of Sicily.

The Gold Medal was engraved by Baron Giuseppe.
