History
The Medal was instituted by Victor Emmanuel III, King of Sardinia, to reward all citizens that had rendered exceptional service and aid during the cholera outbreak.
This Medal was originally minted in a large non-wearable form. On May 3, 1868, the Medal statutes were amended and a wearable form of the Medal was established.
