The Portuguese Red Cross Gratitude Medal is awarded to individuals or groups for spontaneous and selfless meritorious service rendered to the Portuguese Red Cross.

There are two versions of the Bronze Medal that differ in inscription. The first has a reverse inscription that translates to "Society of the Portuguese Red Cross." The second has a reverse inscription that translates to "Portuguese Red Cross." Both versions have an obverse inscription that translates to "Spontaneous and Valued Cooperation."
