A circular medal constructed of silver with four fleur de lis, the obverse bears the image of Alfonso XII encompassed by the inscription ALFONSO XII A LOS VOLUNTARIOS DE LA ISLA DE CUBA 1882, the reverse bears the inscription CONSTANCIA PATRIO TISMO ABNEGACION, the ribbon bears a clasp with the inscription 10 ANOS DE SERVICIO
History
The Cuban Volunteers Medal was established by Royal Decree on July 22, 1882. The medal was conferred upon those who were members of the Voluntary Corps on the island of Cuba.
The medal came with a clasp indicating 10 years of service and recipients were given an additional pin for every additional 5 years of service.
