Physical Description
A circular medal, the obverse bears the bust of Alfonso XII encompassed by the inscription ALFONSO XII A LOS EJERCITOS VENCENDORES DE LOS CARLISTAS Y DEFENSORES DEL ORDEN SOCIAL EN 1873 Y 1874, the reverse bears the inscription VALOR, DISCIPLINA, LEALTAD with a royal crown above and encompassed by laurel branches, with a horizontally elongated suspension on a red and yellow ribbon.
History
The Medal for the Civil War 1873-1874 was created by Royal Decree in June 5, 1876. It was conferred upon members of the Army and Navy who participated in the Carlist War and the Cantonal Insurrection.
The ribbon may be decorated with clasps reading,
