Physical Description


A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears the bust of the young Alfonso XIII, encompassed by the inscription ALOS LEALES VOLUNTARIOS DE FILIPINAS, the reverse bears the inscription CAMPANA DE LUZON 1896 - 1897, with a loop for suspension, on a red and yellow ribbon.

History


The Luzon Campaign Medal was established by the Captain General of the Philippines by Royal Decree on January 11, 1897. The Luzon Campaign Medal was awarded to indigenous volunteer units. By Royal Order on January 26, 1898 the medal was extended to generals, chiefs, officers and other classes of the army that exercised command over the voluntary units.
