Physical Description
An ovular medal, the obverse bears the image of a soldier wearing a Pickelhaube helmet, encompassed by laurel with the inscription MARRUECOS, the reverse bears the image of an angel with the crowned coat of arms of Spain, with oak and laurel and the inscription 1909 / REINANDO ALFONSO XIII, topped with a crown, on a green ribbon.
History
The Military Medal for Morocco was created by Royal Decree on June 29, 1916 in commemoration of the services of the military in Morocco. The medal was awarded on a green ribbon. The ribbon could bear clasps reading:
"LARACHE"
"MELILLA"
"TETUAN"
"XAUAN" (nonofficial)
The ribbon could also be embroidered with a red "X" to indicate the number of wounds.
