History
The Cross for the Fire of the Holy Spirit Church was authorized in Spain by the provisional Regency of the Duke of Angulema on September 25, 1823. It was conferred upon the French Troops that rescued the new Spanish authorities from a fire at the Church of the Holy Spirit on July 20, 1823.
This Cross was authorized with two grades. The Gold Cross was awarded to Officers, while the Silver Cross to enlisted men.
Some versions feature a plain reverse, otherwise the Cross features an reverse inscription that could be translated to "To the French Soldiers and Officers who Assisted to Save the Duke of Angulema from the Fire of the Holy Spirit Church in Madrid."
