History

The Medal for Supporters of the 1812 Spanish Constitution was instituted in Spain around 1820. It was established to reward all supporters of the Spaniard hero Colonel Rafael de Riego, who defended the legitimacy of the first Spanish Constitution against King Ferdinand VII, who tried to reinstate an absolute monarchy in 1820.

It is not clear if the Medal was awarded by ranks.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that could be translated to "Spain Has Been Awakened 1820," and a reverse inscription that could be translated to "Unity makes Strength to the Constitutional Men."
