History

The Star for Cuenca was founded in Spain by the General Courts on August 4, 1823. It was awarded to the villagers of Cuenca for their outstanding actions in the defense of the village against Royalist Forces in 1823.

The Gold Star was conferred upon Officers and high ranks, while the Silver Star was conferred upon enlisted men and volunteers.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that could be translated to "Distinguished Men of the Fatherland, General Courts of 1823,"and a reverse inscription that could be translated to "Cuenca 2nd and 3rd of May, 1823, to The Defenders of the Freedom."
