History
The Medal for Tarifa was instituted in Spain by the General Courts in recognition of a group of constitutionals men, under the command of Francisco Valdés, who proclaimed the Constitution of Cádiz in Tarifa in 1824. As a result, they were strongly repressed by the Royalist Forces of Ferdinand VII.
The Medal was conferred upon Spanish military personnel, and citizens, who defended Tarifa against the royalists. Originally, the soldiers were sixty-five in total. A few days later, a group of people joined to the battle.
The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "To Courage."
