History

The Cross for Gerona was authorized by regency decree in behalf of King Ferdinand VII on September 14, 1810. It was awarded to all men who had taken part in the defense of the city of Gerona from a French siege in 1809.

Two different grades of this Medal were authorized. The I Class Medal was conferred upon Officers and Chiefs, while the II Class Medal was awarded to the troops.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that could be translated to "Siege of Gerona 1809," and a reverse inscription that could be translated to "The Fatherland to the Courage and Constancy."
