History


The Cross for the Asturian Army was founded in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on June 4, 1815. It was conferred upon members of the Spanish Army in recognition of their courage, bravery, and enthusiasm during the defense of the Region of Asturias against French troops led by Marchal Ney and Generals Kellerman and Bonnet during the Peninsular War (1808-1814).

The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "Asturias Has Never Been Conquered," and a reverse inscription that translates to "For the Austrian Army 1808."
