History

The Cross for the Battle of Alcolea Bridge was authorized in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on June 3, 1815. It was awarded to Spanish troops, and citizens, who defended the city of Alcolea against the French army, led by General Dupont, at the Battle of the Alcolea Bridge on June 7, 1811.

The Gold Cross was awarded to Generals and Officers, while the Silver Cross was awarded to privates.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "The Battle of Alcalea," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Freedom of Spain, June 7, 1808."
