History

The Northern Distinction Cross, a.k.a Star for Spanish Troops Returned from Denmark, was established by the Supreme Junta of the Kingdom of Spain, in recognition of the Army Division of the North that returned to Spain from Denmark to fight against the French invaders in 1808.

The composition of the Cross denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Cross was awarded to Officers, and the Silver Cross was for troops.

The Cross features an obverse inscription that could be translated to "The Fatherland is my North," and a reverse inscription that could be translated to "The Loyalty is my Motto."
