History
The Civil Order of Social Solidarity (Order Civil de la Solidaridad Social) was established in Spain by royal decree of April 22, 1988. It was founded to replace the Order of Charity, and it is awarded to recognize either foreign or national individuals, and organizations, that provide extraordinary services relating to Spanish social welfare.
The insignia was designed by Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (National Fabric of Coined and Stamp) of Spain.
The obverse features an inscription that translates to "Social Solidarity."
The first Grand Cross was awarded to the Volunteers of the Olympic Committee of Barcelona in 1992; the second was conferred to Mother Teresa of Calcutta; and, the third was awarded to the Hospitaller Order of Saint John.
