History

At the Badge's initial institution, possibly during 1940, it was conferred upon aeriel observers. In the 1950's there was an amendment in air force tactics, which consequently altered the recipients eligible to receive this Badge. Following the 1950's, this Badge was conferred upon aerial navigators who also, had training in aerial observing.

The Gold Badge was conferred upon Officers.
