History

Established by Crown Prince Carl XV, this Medal is conferred in recognition of contributions to culture, music, the dramatic arts, and literature.

The obverse design of the medal features the portrait of the reigning monarch. As a result, there are multiple versions in the obverse designs and inscriptions.

Early models of this medal were minted in gold rather than the current composition of silver gilt.

This medal may be conferred on either a dark blue ribbon or the same ribbon as the Order of the Seraphim.

This Medal may also be known as the "Litteris et Artibus Medal."
