    History

This Medal is conferred upon individuals who have shown self-sacrifice in the face of danger.

This Medal is not conferred in grades but rather by size and suspension, following an 18th century scale called “Berch’s Scale”. The highest distinction, or grade an individual can receive is the 8th Size Gold Medal; other “grades” that are associated with this medal vary in composition, and medal size.

The obverse ...  design of this medal consists of the portrait of the reining monarch and in Swedish, around his head, his name and title.

On February 8, 2008, an "inbetween" medal of the Swedish Armed Forces Reward Medal for International Service (See Medals & Decorations SWE139 for more information), and the Swedish Medal for Commendable Acts was instituted; this Medal is called the Armed Forces Medal of Merit (See Medals & Decorations SWE140 for more information).
