    History

The medal was founded by Emperor Franz II to recognize the contributions of Dutch volunteers who had rendered good service to, or joined with, the Austrian Army during the war against France during the First Coalition War (1792-1797).

The medal is octagonal and presents a portrait of Emperor Franz II facing right. The inscription on the reverse states POUR SERVICES RENDUS AU ARMEE MDCCXCII (for services to the army). ...  The date on the back corresponds with the year and will be either 1793 (MDCCXCIII) or 1794 (MDCCXCIV).’

Both the Gold and the silver medal were worn on a red ribbon. These medals are very rare.
