The Decoration for the 50th Anniversary of Belgian Railways was established by Royal Decree on April 30, 1884.

The I Class Cross was awarded to civil servants and employees, as well as retired civil servants and employees, in recognition of at least 25 years of meritorious service and cooperation in the construction or service of Belgian railroads. The reverse inscription translates to "May 1, 1884."
