History
The Medal of Physical Education and Sport was established by Royal Decree on March 23, 1935. It was meant to be awarded to Belgian citizens and foreigners in recognition of significant contributions to sport and physical education in Belgium, or for bringing honour to Belgium through achievements in sport and physical education, but it was never actually awarded. It was officially replaced a short time later in 1939 by the Medal for Sport Merit.
The annual contingent was supposed to be composed of 20 Gold Medals, 80 Silver Medals, and 250 Bronze Medals for Belgians, and 20 Gold Medals and 30 Silver Medals for foreigners.
The reverse inscription translates to "Remember the Homeland Belgium."
See also the Medal for Sport Merit in the Medals & Decorations of Belgium for the award that replaced this Medal.
