History
The Veteran's Cross (1870-1871) was awarded to Belgian troops who mobilised during the Franco-Prussian War in anticipation of an attempt by Napoleon III to incorporate Belgium into France. It was later extended to Belgian troops for disarming the French soldiers who remained in Belgium following their defeat at Sedan.
