History
This medal was conferred in recognition of acts of gallantry during conflict. It was awarded to Croatian Armed Forces military personnel and foreign allied military personnel.
The reverse inscription translates to "Ready to Defend the Fatherland" and "For Bravery".
This medal is named after Ante Pavelic who was the leader of the Independent State of Croatia from 1941-1945.
The Ante Pavelic Gold Bravery Medal was worn on uniquely constructed ribbon, and was worn from the second upper button. The die of the golden bravery medal is different from the die used on large silver bravery medal, as well, the suspension is different. Beside the great honour, recipient of the Golden medal for bravery had right on title "Knight" (Vitez).
The Golden medal for bravery was rarely awarded, and during the entire World War Two only seven persons (five of them posthumously) received this award. As well, two Croatian units received this award. It is believed only for a short time in 1941 few medals were struck in solid Gold, while later medals were struck in silver gilt.
