History

This Order is conferred in recognition of contributions to the reputation and status of the Republic of Croatia, for exemplary contributions to the independence of the Republic, for exceptional personal contributions to the advancement of the relationship between the Croatian people and other countries and their citizens, and for merit, command and leadership in the development of strategy in the Croatian Armed Forces.

It is awarded to highly ranked state officials, foreign officials, and senior military officials.

This Order was reconstituted on April 1, 1995.

The Order is named after Peter Kresimir IV who was the king of Croatia during the 11th century. During his reign he would expand the realm of Croatia.
