History
Established by King Frederik VI, when the King joined the Congress of Vienna in 1814, this medal was conferred upon individuals who were scientists and foreign artists. Assumed to be an accident, this medal was awarded for lifesaving on one occasion.
This medal was only worn with permission on one occasion, otherwise, recipients of this medal did not have permission to wear the award.
Engraved on the rim of the medal is the recipients name.
From the years 1814-1815 the medal was made at the Imperial Mint in Vienna, beginning from 1816, the medal was made at the Royal Mint in Copenhagen.
