Established by King Christian VII, this medal was awarded to recognize individuals who participated in the victorious battle of Copenhagen in 1801.

This rim of the medal is engraved with the recipients number and rank.

Individuals who were being recognized for their valor and were any rank lower than an Officer, were eligible to receive the silver medal. Volunteers received this award without a ring, indicating that it was not intended to be worn.
