History

The Finnish Name of the Medal is "Lotta-Svärd ansiomitali".

The face of the circular bronze medal with eyelet and loop for ribbon suspension shows the Cross of Merit of the Lotta Svard. The reverse is plain.

The Lotta Svärd Merit Cross decoration was awarded by the organization "Lotta Svärd", a voluntary organisation for women only which was formed in 1918 during the War of Independence to provide auxiliary military support.

The swastika on the medal has no connection with the Nazi Party.
