History

The exact details surrounding the creation of this Medal are unknown. It was awarded to citizens and members of the National Guard who were wounded on the 22, 23, 24 of February, 1848, before the abdication of King Louis Philippe.

The obverse inscription translates to "French Republic," and the reverse inscription translates to "Wounded for Liberty 22, 23, 24 February 1848."

The Medal may appear in a variety of compositions including gold, copper, and bronze, but it is uncertain if these represented grades. The Medal may also appear surmounted by a mural crown.
